Drawer IV / Stock book

A register of every device, kept current rather than kept somewhere.

No dispensary works from memory. The stock book records what is held, in what quantity, and what has moved. These four lines do the same for your hardware: what exists, what it runs, whether it is patched, and which machine has quietly stopped reporting since the last refit.

The count you give us is the count we protect

Scoping a practice almost always turns up more hardware than the person answering expected. A laptop in a store cupboard, the machine in the room nobody uses since the refit, three iPads bought for a project that ended. None of that is negligence. It is what happens to any organisation over a decade of ordinary work.

The register is worth having for its own sake, separately from any control that runs on top of it. An analysis does not conclude with roughly forty computers. Forty one machines, each carrying its operating system and its patch state, is something a person can work from.

A register naming forty one machines beats an analysis that says roughly forty.

The hardware nobody put on the list

Seldom does Apple hardware arrive by decision; it simply appears. What follows is that it sits outside whatever already manages the Windows side of the practice. Addigy brings Macs and iPads under the same register: configuration, updates, encryption state, and compliance reporting that shows the real state rather than the intended one.

Handsets are the other quiet gap. Clinicians read mail, check schedules and sometimes photograph findings on a phone. Zimperium forms its judgement on the device, with nothing routed elsewhere and nobody's private messages read, which happens to be the only shape of mobile protection staff will put up with.

Remote Monitoring and Management

N-able N-sight on the managed device

Dispensing against a stock list nobody ever wrote is impossible. Keeping that register is this preparation's job: what hardware exists, what runs on it, whether patches landed, and which machine has gone quiet since the treatment room was refitted.

  • Patching, monitoring, scripting and remote support from one agent.
  • Hardware and software inventory that a risk analysis can quote from.
  • A machine that stops checking in raises a flag instead of drifting off the list.
  • Remote support without asking a clinician to read a serial number aloud.

Web and DNS Filtering

N-able N-sight, on the way out to the internet

The filtering travels in the laptop bag instead of being bolted inside a comms cupboard. A machine at a satellite clinic, a home visit or a conference gets the same policy it has at the main site, with no appliance to buy and nothing to rack.

  • Rides the same agent as the monitoring line, so there is no second install.
  • Category policy plus named exceptions, because clinical sites are often miscategorised.
  • Visibility of bandwidth, which is how a machine syncing what it should not gets found.
  • Works off the practice network, which is where most of the risky browsing happens.

Apple Fleet Management

Addigy, for the Macs and iPads

Practices accumulate Apple hardware without deciding to: the office manager's MacBook, the iPads clinicians carry between rooms, the front desk machine somebody replaced in a hurry. Addigy brings that hardware under the same management as the rest.

  • Configuration profiles, update enforcement and encryption state on Mac and iOS.
  • Enrolment through Apple Business Manager where the hardware supports it.
  • Compliance checks that report the real state instead of the intended state.
  • Counted per Apple device, so an iPad and a MacBook each count once.

Mobile Threat Defense

Zimperium, on the phone in the pocket

Clinicians read mail, take call schedules and sometimes photograph wounds on a phone. Judgement gets formed on the handset: an application misbehaving, a phishing link opened somewhere other than mail, a waiting room network that deserves no trust at all.

  • The judgement happens on the device, which means no traffic has to be sent anywhere first.
  • Covers application risk, network attacks and phishing links opened outside mail.
  • Reports device risk without reading personal photographs or private messages.
  • Counted per handset, whichever platform it runs.

Where this drawer stops

Management covers devices that can be managed. A great deal of clinical hardware cannot be, and the honest thing is to say which is which at scoping rather than after the invoice.

  • Sealed clinical equipment generally will not take an agent. Standard terms on modalities, analysers, dental sensors and infusion hardware flatly prohibit third party software, and installing under such a term costs you either the support or the certification. Those devices belong on a segmented network with a written, dated decision recording why. We will help you draft it. We will not pretend an agent is going on them.
  • Personal devices that never enrol are not covered. A phone nobody enrolled is outside this drawer. Whether to require enrolment is a policy decision only your practice can make.
  • Patching is not the same as vulnerability management. We report what patched, what did not and why. Deciding to accept a risk, or to replace hardware too old to patch, is a decision that stays with you.
  • Filtering is not inspection of encrypted clinical traffic. We filter by name resolution and request. We do not break open encrypted sessions between a machine and a payer or a laboratory.
  • It does not make anyone HIPAA compliant. A correct inventory feeds a risk analysis. It is not itself the analysis, and it is certainly not a certificate.
